For a cocktail party you have 2 options:

1) Tuxedo
Tie or Bow tie doesn't matter. Up to you.

2) Full Suit & tie
Dark/ Black Suit
Suit Vest
Dress Pants
Black Dress Shoes, Dress Socks, Dress Belt
White/ Light colored Dress Shirt
Matching Necktie (Wouldn't wear bow tie with this)

Remember:
1) Make sure tie is tied correctly
2) Tuck in dress shirt
3) Button all buttons (Including top)
4) Tie done up to top
5) Make sure collar completely covers the tie
6) Tie neatly tied & done up (I can't stress this enough)
